Good quotes can come from living people, and even from politicians, too.
Mykola Azarov, the Ukrainian Prime Minister, joined in the angst of his fellow country men after being cruelly twitched over the exit line at the Euro Championship 2012. A legitimate goal that could have saved the day with a draw against England but that is how sport is, and how Azarov sensibly looked at it.
“Sport is sport. It’s like life, with everything: luck, chance, mistakes and unfairness. We shouldn’t make a tragedy of this.”
How true. Life and Sport.
Life is not fair, for sure. Everyone makes mistakes but it is how we pick ourselves up and learn from them.
Luck does not smile always but you need to actually look if it is smiling at you at any given moment. So if you are always cribbing in your job or think if a 9 to 5 job and beyond is all you have to leverage to achieve your lofted dreams, maybe your bad luck will stay.
Life is all about taking your chances. As somebody said it nicely: If life gives you lemons, make yourself a lemonade.
A vodka drink would be even better.
